Charlize Theron officially joins Fast & Furious 8

April 7, 2016 by Scott J. Davis

After months of rumours  about her potential involvement, Universal Pictures has today officially announced that Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) is joining the cast of Fast & Furious 8.

While details of her roleare being kept quiet for the time being, rumours have placed Theron as the new villain, taking over (or potentially teaming up with) previous “big bad” Jason Statham, who featured in Fast 7.

Indications are that the studio wanted Theron from the beginning of pre-production, but as the script was still to be finished, the actress was not keen to commit until it was completed. Her casting follows the news that Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju had joined the film as a “henchman”.

F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) directs the film which is due for release on April 14th, 2017. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Lucas Black, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham are all on board to return.
