Millicent Simmonds joins Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck

Deadline is reporting  that newcomer Millicent Simmonds has landed a key role in Wonderstruck, the new film from acclaimed director Todd Haynes (Carol).

Simmonds, a 13 year-old deaf actress, is set to play a character called Rose, one of two deaf children whose stories intertwine in the adaptation of Brian Selznick’s novel.

Wonderstruck centres on “Ben, who lives with his family in Minnesota in 1977 and runs off to New York following his mother’s death when a mysterious note shows up, and Rose, locked in a house in 1927 New Jersey, who also escapes to New York to see her idol, film actress Lillian Mayhew.”

Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Michelle Williams (Suite Francaise) and Amy Hargreaves (Homeland) also star in the film, which is is set for release in 2017.
