J.K. Simmons will only have a “very small” role in Justice League Part One

April 27, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Last month, it was revealed that J.K. Simmons is set to portray the character of Commissioner Gordon in the currently-in-production Justice League Part One, and the Oscar-winner has revealed that his first foray into the DC Extended Universe will be a very minor role, although he is hoping it will lead to bigger things further down the line.

“I don’t get started on that until June, and my part in the first one is very small,” Simmons tells DP/30. “I’m excited to be playing that iconic character in that iconic series… With these big superhero movies, everyone is so tight lipped about everything that there’s a certain amount of going on faith. They asked me to come in and meet with Zack Snyder. We had a great meeting and I’m a big fan of what he’s done. We hit it off and he asked me to do the guy, and I’m going into a thing that will hopefully be two, three, four maybe more movies for me. My part in the first one is very small, but we know who the guy is, we know his entire backstory through the comics, so I’m just gonna finish doing my research on that. I’m probably not going to watch the other actors who have played the part, because that’s intimidating honestly, and I don’t think I’d find that productive, so I’m just going to do my take.”

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon and Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera. Part One is set for release on November 17th 2017, with Part Two following on June 14th 2019.
