Captain America: Civil War co-writer wants to bring Namor to the MCU next

May 4, 2016 by James Garcia

Now that Captain America: Civil War screenwriters Christoper Markus and Stephen McFeely have brought both Black Panther and Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who would they like to tackle next? According to McFeely, none other than Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

McFeely talked about his interest in Namor with THR, saying:

“[Namor] is kind of a jerk and has a chip on his shoulder and he is a king and lives underwater. The degree of difficulty is so high, though. Cause it could be a great movie or it could be truly terrible.”

For a while, the question of whether or not Marvel Studios even had the rights to Namor were uncertain, but those rights reportedly reverted back to Marvel in 2014. With McFeely’s interest, the MCU expanding into Phase Three and introducing new characters, and with the Inhumans film off the table, perhaps one of Marvel Comics’ oldest heroes will soon get his chance to shine?

More than likely, Marvel will look to rival Warner Bros. – who are prepping an Aquaman film for 2018 starring Jason Momoa – to see if such a property is even something audiences would be interested in. If they are, it probably won’t be long before Iron Man dons some deep sea armor to take on the Sub-Mariner.
