UPDATE: Daniel Craig reportedly turns down £68 million deal for two more Bond movies

May 19, 2016 by Gary Collinson

If The Daily Mail is to be believed, Daniel Craig’s tenure as James Bond has come to an end, with the actor reportedly turning down a £68 million ($100 million) deal to return as 007 for two more movies.

“Daniel is done – pure and simple – he told top brass at MGM after Spectre,” claims the newspaper’s source. “They threw huge amounts of money at him, but it just wasn’t what he wanted. He had told people after shooting that this would be his final outing, but the film company still felt he could come around after Spectre if he was offered a money deal.”

Craig had been critical of the franchise in the lead up to Spectre, stating that he’d “rather slash my wrists” than return for another movie. However, he later backtracked on those comments, and hinted at the possibility that he could return for one last outing.

Speculation as to Craig’s successor has been rife for a while now, with bookmakers Coral suspending betting this past weekend after a flurry of support for Tom Hiddleston. Other rumoured contenders over the past year have included Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Damian Lewis and Sam Riley.

UPDATE: According to the BBC, the report is false and that Craig is yet to make a decision on his future as Bond, and that “no decision is likely to be made for a while.”

Will you be disappointed if Daniel Craig has called it a day as Bond? Or is it time for a new actor to take on the role? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
