Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star in Sandman movie for David S. Goyer?

November 21, 2013 by admin

The fact that Neil Gaiman’s Sandman hasn’t already been adapted into a feature film yet is baffling. However, for fans of the now legendary comic book series, we may be one step nearer to a cinematic adaptation. According to Badass Digest, Batman Begins, Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman scribe David S. Goyer reportedly pitching the idea to Warner Bros. with a view to casting Joseph Gordon Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises, Don Jon) in the lead role as Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams.

There have been several attempts to bring the DC Comics series to the screen over the years, with Pulp Fiction screenwriter Roger Avery attached to direct in the mid 90s, working from a script by Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean), while James Mangold (The Wolverine) unsuccessfully pitched a television series to HBO and Warner Bros Television attached Supernatural creator Eric Kripke to a small screen adaptation in 2010 before ultimately passing on his take.

Before you get too excited this is still a rumour at present, but if it does happen to pan out it would be an absolute pleasure to see Sandman on the screen. And while Tom Hiddleston would be my pick for Morpheus, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a diverse actor and would fill the shoes well.
