Superman to appear in Supergirl Season 2

June 6, 2016 by Ricky Church

As Supergirl gets ready to move to The CW in the fall, the hero’s famous cousin is now set to appear in its second season. Superman will play a role of the first two episodes of the returning series.

Throughout season one Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen and other characters frequently mentioned Superman and Clark Kent. He would either be seen from a distance, a hallucination as a young boy or even interact with Kara through an online message service, offering advice in times of need. Now the search is underway for an actor to portray the Man of Steel in Supergirl’s premiere episodes.

Executive producer Andrew Kriesberg said “Greg (Berlanti), Ali (Adler) and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

This will be the first time in 10 years there have been two actors portraying Clark Kent/Superman at the same time. In 2006 Tom Welling played the character in Smallville while Brandon Routh starred in Superman Returns, though Welling was never properly in the Superman suit throughout Smallville’s run. Seeing that Supergirl has hired other actors who have connections to the Superman and Supergirl mythos, such as Helen Slater, Dean Cain and Laura Vandervoort, perhaps they can lure Tom Welling back to play Superman once again. Season two of Supergirl will also see a mega-crossover between Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow so maybe we’ll even see Superman interact with the other heroes of the CW-verse.
