Exclusive: IDW’s John Barber responds to the fan criticism of Revolution and how it affects The Transformers

June 22, 2016 by admin

Earlier this month, IDW announced a Hasbro shared universe comic titled Revolution (not tying into the Paramount movie one) which would bring The Transformers, G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., Micronauts, Action Man and more. The announcement led to several IDW readers – particularly Transformers fans – to take editor Chris Ryall to task by asking questions about what will become of their favourite books.

You can see some of this below:

I'll consider your point if you consider reading it before saddling us with baggage we're not actually adding. https://t.co/7hMlrN0IKC

Not a reboot in any way, shape or form, actually. All the stories you read here before still happened. https://t.co/ztOiTvx2H1

I understand the trepidation but we're not abandoning plans, characters or stories. Just moving things forward. https://t.co/uycJ6zDZtC

We had the chance to speak with John Barber, who’s heading up Revolution which kicks off today with Action Man #1 and when asked if he was surprised by the reaction Ryall recieved on Twitter, he simply said:

“Nope. I used to edit Wolverine. I’m used to the internet reaction being negative.”

Will this reaction change their plans for Revolution?

“Nope. The plan is the plan and the plan is awesome,” Barber adds. “I mean, there’s pressure, of course – Cullen [Bunn] and Fico [Ossio] and editor David Hedgecock and colorist Sebastian Cheng and I all feel a lot of pressure to not let people down, and to do justice to the characters, and to build a strong foundation to this world. Telling a story has it’s own pressure! A nice pressure, I’m not complaining – it’s great! But I don’t feel any additional pressure based on anybody’s initial reactions.”

Action Man #1 is out today, check out the preview here.
