Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg rumoured to be developing Preacher pilot for AMC

November 17, 2013 by admin

Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s acclaimed comic book series Preacher might finally be making it to the screen, with rumours from Badass Digest suggesting that This Is the End duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are developing a pilot for AMC. According to the report AMC is hopeful that Preacher could help to fill the hole left in its schedule following the conclusion of Breaking Bad and the soon-to-be-ending Mad Men, although a rep for the cable network has refused to confirm whether there’s any truth to the story.

Published between 1995 and 2000, Preacher centres on Jesse Custer, a small-town reverend who becomes possessed by an entity called Genesis, sending him on a quest to find God in order to confront Him for abandoning his creation. Various screen adaptations of the sprawling tale have been in the works over the years, with Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl) first set to direct a script from Ennis in the late 90s/early 00s, with Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier producing and James Marsden (X-Men) cast in the role of Jesse Custer. In 2006 HBO hired Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil) and Howard Deutch (Pretty in Pink) to write and direct a TV pilot, while Columbia Pictures attached Sam Mendes (Skyfall) to develop a movie version in 2008.

Are you excited about the prospect of Preacher coming to TV and are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg the right men for the task? Let us know in the comments below….
