Jon Bernthal says The Punisher series will shoot next year

June 26, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Following his acclaimed turn as Frank Castle in season two of Daredevil earlier this year, it did not take long for Netflix to grant Jon Bernthal his own headline spot, giving Marvel the green light for a Punisher series on the streaming service.

During an interview with Awards Daily where he spoke in depth about playing the fan favourite vigilante in Daredevil, the former Walking Dead star has revealed that production on The Punisher is set to get underway next year.

“I have no idea,” said Bernthal when asked what the future holds in store for Frank Castle. “We are going to do a show with him next year. I’m really excited about that. We’ll have to see.”

In terms of Marvel’s Netflix slate, Luke Cage is set to arrive this September, while Iron Fist is shooting now and will likely hit in the Spring of next year. Marvel is also filming The Defenders and Jessica Jones back-to-back, and assuming Netflix sticks to two series per year, they’d presumably arrive in the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018, followed by The Punisher later in 2018. Of course, we may yet see him in The Defenders too…
