X-Men and The Fantastic Four won’t share the same movie universe

May 14, 2014 by Gary Collinson

On several occasions over the past year, we’ve heard talk – including comments from Mark Millar – suggesting that 20th Century Fox is devising a shared movie universe between it’s two Marvel properties, X-Men and The Fantastic Four, possibly even building to a showdown between the two superhero teams. Well, it seems that could be wide of the mark…

Speaking to ScreenCrush to promote the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past [read our review here], writer and producer Simon Kinberg has spoken about the connection – or lack of – between the X-Men franchise and the upcoming FF reboot, which seems to indicate that we won’t be seeing any kind of shared universe or crossover between the two series:

“Well, it’s complicated. Because none of the X-Men movies have acknowledged the notion of a sort of superhero team — the Fantastic Four. And the Fantastic Four acquire powers, so for them to live in a world where mutants are prevalent is kind of complicated, because you’re like, ‘Oh, you’re just a mutant.’ Like, ‘What’s so fantastic about you?’ No, it is, they live in discrete universes.”

Is Fox making a mistake by keeping its two Marvel properties separate or is it the right move? Let us know your thoughts…
