Amazon close to deal for Kevin Smith’s Buckaroo Banzai TV series

July 22, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in May Kevin Smith announced that he’s partnering up with MGM for a small screen adaptation of the 1984 cult sci-fi The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, and now Deadline is reporting that Amazon is close to reaching a deal for the series.

Smith, a long time fan of the original movie, has stated that he hoped to be able to lure original cast members such as Peter Wller, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd and Jeff Goldblum back for the TV series, and views the first season as an adaptation of the film, with potential subsequent season then expanding the story further.

Since directing an episode of The Flash last year, Smith has started turning his attention more towards TV; he’ll be directing another episode of the DC series for its third season, and has also reworked his planned Mallrats sequel into a 10-episode series.
