Joel Edgerton to join Jennifer Lawrence in spy thriller Red Sparrow

August 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Joel Edgerton has entered talks with 20th Century Fox to join Jennifer Lawrence in the upcoming spy thriller Red Sparrow, which is being directed by Lawrence’s Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence.

Red Sparrow will take place in modern-day Russia, with Lawrence playing Dominika Egorova, a state intelligence officer coerced into becoming a ‘Sparrow’, a trained seductress who is tasked with operating against CIA agent Nathaniel Nash (Edgerton), who handles the agency’s most important Russian mole.

Based on the espionage novel by Jason Matthews, Red Sparrow has been scripted by Eric Warren (American Hustle) and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road).
