Anchorman director Adam McKay in talks to replace Edgar Wright on Marvel’s Ant-Man

May 31, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Last night a shortlist of potential directors to succeed Edgar Wright on Marvel’s Ant-Man emerged, featuring the likes of Adam McKay (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers) and Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland).

While early talk seemed to suggest Thurber was the front runner, it’s now being reported that McKay has emerged as Marvel’s favourite, and has entered formal talks with the studio about taking on the long-gestating Phase Three project. McKay has of course worked with Ant-Man’s leading man Paul Rudd before, directing him in both Anchorman and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

Is Adam McKay a good choice to replace Edgar Wright on Ant-Man? Or would you have liked to see Marvel going with one of the other candidates?

UPDATE: According to THR, McKay has now decided against taking on the job, pulling out of negotiations with Marvel. So it looks like the search continues.

Ant-Man is set for release on July 17th 2015 and will see Rudd joined in the cast by Michael Douglas (Behind the Candelabra) as Hank Pym and Patrick Wilson (Watchmen), Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Matt Gerald (Escape Plan) and Michael Pena (American Hustle) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
