Kevin Smith thinks Warner Bros. has got the message that “we don’t want doom and gloom” with the DC Extended Universe

August 28, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Despite performing well at the box office, Warner Bros.’ two big DC movies of 2016 – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad – have had a hard time with critics, while a large section of the fanbase has been vocal in speaking out about the direction of the DC Extended Universe.

While he loved Suicide Squad, filmmaker Kevin Smith was very critical about Batman v Superman, but it seems he’s optimistic for Zack Snyder’s next effort Justice League, telling Canoe that it looks like Warner Bros. has been listening to the fans when it comes to the tone of the DCEU:

“The audience that pays to see these things are like, ‘There’s a certain set of standards that we want when we come see these superhero movies, and, yes, most of those standards have been set for us by Marvel,'” states Smith. “‘Regardless, this is what we want in our superhero movies. We don’t want doom and gloom. We want them to like each other. We want them to have an interplay.’ It looks like [Warner Bros. and DC Comics] heard that loud and clear and everything that was missing or perceived to be missing from Batman v Superman seems like it’s in full display on Justice League, so I’m on board. I was already on board, but I’m very happy to see that they’re taking that direction.”

Are you optimistic for Justice League? Are Warner and DC right to change direction? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
