Dave Franco to star in The Room movie, The Disaster Artist

June 9, 2014 by Luke Owen

Oh hai Dave.

It’s been hailed as one of the worst movies ever made, but Tommy Wiseau’s The Room is cult smash that still sells out screenings a decade after its initial release. Last year, the movies co-star Greg Sestero released a “tell all” book called The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made (read our review here) and it was quickly optioned by Seth Rogan (Neighbors/Bad Neighbours) and it was announced that James Franco (This Is The End) would direct. Franco has also hinted several times that he will take on the role of Tommy Wiseau.

Well now it seems his younger brother Dave Franco (who starred alongside Rogan in Neighbors/Bad Neighbours) will be playing the part of Greg Sestero.

At a screening in L.A last night of The Room, Dave Franco stood up during a post-screening Q&A with Wiseau and asked, “Tommy, how do you feel about me playing Greg Sestero in The Disaster Artist?” to which Wiseau replied, “That’s what I say: It’s a good choice!”. He also added, “I didn’t want to say it, but it happened, so, he’s a good guy”. Franco later posted a picture of him and Wiseau to his Instagram account.

A reporter who was at the screening said that Wiseau was unreceptive to the idea of a movie adaptation of The Disaster Artist. When asked about the book, Wiseau said that he’d read “about 50 percent of it”. He also added, “Greg is a talented guy, but you know, whatever”.
