It’s official: George Lucas will have no involvement with Indiana Jones 5

October 25, 2016 by admin

When it was announced a few months back, director Steven Spielberg had said that co-creator George Lucas would be involved in Indiana Jones 5, but that now appears to be completely untrue.

“He’s not [involved], to my knowledge,” screenwriter David Koepp told Collider. “I’ve had no contact with him.”

Ever since Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, his input into creations has been very limited. He put forward ideas for Star Wars: Episode VII – later re-titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens – but they were all rejected.

Koepp also offered a brief update on the film’s progress, stating that: “I’m deeply immersed as we speak. All I can say is that there’s lots of aliens and Indy dies at the end (laughs). Lots of hiding in lead-lined refrigerators, aliens, and he dies. Should go over very well. It feels like it has a lot of momentum behind it. We have ‘top men’ working on it as we speak (laughs). No, it’s going really well. I really like our idea; I think it’s clean and simple and makes a lot of sense, and I feel like the writing is going really well.”

No plot details for Indiana Jones 5 are known, but Spielberg will be returning to direct with Harrison Ford starring.

Indiana Jones first came to our screen in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark and returned for 1984’s Temple of Doom and 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. After a very long hiatus, Ford, Lucas and Spielberg returned for 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – which was not received well by fans.
