Disney developing live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

November 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

This won’t come as much of a surprise given that virtually every other animated property in its back catalogue is set for the live-action treatment, but THR is reporting that Disney is in development on a musical, live-action take on its very first animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The live-action remake is being scripted by Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train), and is said to expand upon the story and music from the 1937 original, with new songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land).

We’ve had a couple of live-action Snow White tales recently in Mirror Mirror from Relativity and Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, both of which were released in 2012. Meanwhile, Disney has also announced plans for a movie based around Snow White’s sister Rose Red.

Following the success of the likes of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book, Disney is really ramping up its live-action remakes, with the likes of The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan and The Little Mermaid all announced in the past couple of months.
