Image Comics’ Rat Queens getting an animated TV adaptation

June 17, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Kurtis Weibe and Roc Upchurch’s Eisner Award-nominated Image Comics series Rat Queens is set to head to the small screen, with Variety revealing that Weta Workshop’s Pukeko Pictures is teaming up with Heavy Metal to adapt the comic book as an animated TV series, which will then be pitched to networks.

Rat Queens is a “sass-and-sorcery series [which] revolves around beer-guzzling maidens — Hannah the Rockabilly elven mage, Violet the hipster dwarven fighter, Dee the atheist human cleric and Betty the hippy smidgen thief — who are hired to kill monsters and other beasts.”

This is the second of Weibe’s series to get a TV adaptation from Heavy Metal, who is collaborating with BBC Worldwide on Peter Panzerfaust, with Life on Mars creators Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah busy writing a pilot.
