Dan Stevens to play Charles Dickens in The Man Who Invented Christmas

November 8, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from signing on to Gareth Evans’ new film Apostle, Dan Stevens has added another project to his upcoming slate, with the British actor set to play Charles Dickens in The Man Who Invented Christmas.

The project will explore how Dickens set out to write A Christmas Carol, and will see Stevens joined in the cast by Jonathan Pryce (Game of Thrones) as Dickens’ father and Christopher Plummer (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) as Scrooge.

“This is a Dickens we have not seen before, young, driven, and on a mission,” said director Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day), who will helm from a script by Susan Coyne (Mozart in the Jungle). “A story full of the wit, wisdom, and warmth he gave us all. What a privilege it is to be directing this wonderful film.”

Dan Stevens will next be seen in the X-Men TV series Legion, which is set to premiere in February, and will also portray The Prince in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.
