Guillermo del Toro believes his Justice League Dark movie can work alongside Constantine TV show

October 16, 2013 by admin

Last year it was revealed that fanboy favourite director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) was planning to bring together to supernatural characters of the DC Universe for Heaven Sent, a.k.a. Dark Universe, a.k.a. an adaptation of the comic book series Justice League Dark, which revolves around a team led by John Constantine.

However, just last month Warner Bros. Television announced that a Constantine TV pilot is in the works at NBC, which naturally raised questions about the status of del Toro’s proposed feature film. Well, speaking to IGN, the director has confirmed that the movie is “still active” and that he believes it could coexist alongside the planned TV series:

“We talked about it at DC and Warners, and I feel confident that the two properties can exist at the same time. I think that DC is trying to create a great universe of characters, and expand it and make it clear to the audience that it’s a landscape of characters, and not just one that’s dependent on one or two characters.”

Of course this could all be academic, as there’s no guarantee that Constantine will make it past the pilot stage at Fox, while Dark Universe could quite easily end up gathering dust on del Toro’s shelf amongst his numerous other abandoned and yet-to-be-realised projects.
