John Rogers to act as showrunner for The Kingkiller Chronicle

December 14, 2016 by Ricky Church

The Kingkiller Chronicle has found its showrunner. John Rogers, creator of TNT’s The Librarians, has been hired to showrun the series as well be an executive producer and write the pilot.

The series is an adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss’ book trilogy, which has currently only published The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear.

The fantasy series is about Kvothe, an innkeeper who narrates the tales of his youth as he became an infamous swordsman, musician and magician. The series contain many meta-fictional stories that shift perspectives from character to character and treats him as somewhat an unreliable narrator, never quite knowing what is true and simply exaggerated.

Recently Hamilton star and producer Lin-Manuel Miranda was hired by Lionsgate to serve as a creative producer and head of musical development for the show. Lionsgate also plans to make a feature film which will then be complimented by the series and has an eye to expand The Kingkiller Chronicle as a stage play and possibly even a video game series.

“The best way to service Pat Rothfuss’ unique and ambitious view was to invent a new way of adapting it with Lionsgate’s film and television teams working side-by-side, which meant that only a multi-hyphenate talent like Lin-Manuel Miranda could do the job,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig. “Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects.”

The third book in the series, The Doors of Stone, has yet to have a release date.
