Deadpool tops the list of the most pirated movies of 2016

December 31, 2016 by Gary Collinson

After unveiling the most pirated TV shows of the year earlier this week, Torrent Freak has now revealed the ten most-pirated movies of 2016, based upon the number of illegal downloads on BitTorrent over the past six months.

There aren’t really any major surprises here, save perhaps for the lack of Zootopia, which is the third-highest grossing release of the year. Marvel’s Doctor Strange is also the only superhero movie of the year absent from the list, but that’s presumably down to it being released so late in the year.

1. Deadpool  (20th Century Fox)
2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Warner Bros.)
3. Captain America: Civil War (Marvel Studios)
4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Lucasfilm)
5. X-Men: Apocalypse (20th Century Fox)
6. Warcraft (Universal Pictures)
7. Independence Day: Resurgence (20th Century Fox)
8. Suicide Squad (Warner Bros.)
9. Finding Dory (Pixar)
10. The Revenant (20th Century Fox)
