Legion showrunner teases potential X-Men crossover

January 11, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Yes, everyone loves a crossover. Shared universes are all the rage, especially as it pertains to anything superhero or comic book related. Alas, it’s no surprise that showrunner Noah Hawley (of Fargo fame), was asked about a potential crossover between the X-Men and his new show Legion.

Legion, the story of Charles Xavier’s mutant son David Haller and his struggle with what was originally perceived to be a mental illness, has by nature some very tangible connections to the wider X-Men universe.

“I’m firm believer the show has to stand on its own two feet,” Hawley remarked in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “For a crossover to be possible we have to earn that right through the quality of our storytelling and hopefully our popularity. David’s origin story hasn’t changed, so we haven’t changed that connection to the X-Men universe.”

That of course is by no means an official confirmation but it isn’t a hard no either. If the show is a success and the demand is there, who knows. We will have to wait and see.

Legion is the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human. It introduces the story of David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Legion is set to premiere on February 8th, 2017 and stars Dan Stevens (The Guest), Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jean Smart (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Amber Midthunder (Hell or High Water), Katie Aselton (The League), Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) and Bill Irwin (Interstellar).
