The X-Files close to receiving Season 11 order

January 12, 2017 by Ricky Church

After more than a decade off the television, The X-Files returned in 2016 to become a ratings success for FOX. The saga of Agents Mulder and Scully was not over however as Season 10 ended on a cliffhanger, hinting there were more stories for creator Chris Carter and leads David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to tell.

Word on another season has been fairly scarce since the finale though, with the occasional tease every now and then. However, fans now have a big glimmer of hope due to comments made at the Television Critics Association regarding an eleventh season.

“There’s a lot of conversations going on,” said FOX’s President of Entertainment David Madden. “These conversations are complex, but we hope to be able to announce something shortly.”

In fact, according to Entertainment Weekly, Madden and FOX hoped to announce another season of The X-Files at the panel, but deals with Duchovny and Anderson were not yet finalized due to their busy schedules.

Madden also hinted at FOX’s desire to have more episodes than the six that were in Season 10, though it still would not be a typical full season order of 22 that The X-Files received while it was first on the air. More likely is it would be brought back as a limited series, much like 24: Live Another Day and its reboot 24: Legacy, and would return in 2018 at the earliest.
