Former CHIPS stars blast reboot

January 17, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Last week the first trailer arrived online for the CHIPS reboot (which stars Dax Shepard and Michael Pena in the lead roles), and while it has received mixed reactions from the public, two former stars of the show have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure with the new R-rated spin on the property.

First up is Erik Estrada, who did not directly attack the movie with his own words, but rather retweeted the following remarks.

@LarryDWilcox @ErikEstrada I tell you that new CHiPs movie that is either in the works or done is demeaning 2 CHiPs' fans & I will nt see it

Meanwhile, Larry Wilcox tweeted this:

Way to go Warner Bros – just ruined the Brand of CHIPS and of the Calif Highway Patrol. Great choice!

What did you make of the CHIPS trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.

The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

CHIPS is set for release on March 24th and sees Shepard writing and directing as well as starring in the cast alongside Peña, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jessica McNamee, Ryan Hansen, Justin Chatwin, Adam Brody, Rosa Salazar, Vida Guerra, Maya Rudolph and Kristen Bell.
