Despite the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse setting up a potential Mister Sinister appearance in Logan, director James Mangold subsequently confirmed that Nathaniel Essex would not feature in Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine swansong, as he didn’t fit with the tone of the latest instalment in the X-Men series.
However, for any fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting a big screen take on Mister Sinister, writer-producer Simon Kinberg has revealed to CinemaBlend that plans are afoot to introduce the villain:
“The short answer is yes,” said Kinberg. “We’d love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world.”
The next instalment of Fox’s main X-Men franchise, X-Men: Supernova, will reportedly revisit the Dark Phoenix storyline, but Fox has several other X-Men projects on the horizon, including X-Men: The New Mutants, Deadpool 2, X-Force and Gambit, should they be looking to utilise Sinister sooner rather than later (or never, in the case of Gambit).
