March 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Rounding up the weekend’s big news stories…

WONDER WOMAN GETS AN ORIGINS TRAILER

AVATAR 2 DELAYED. AGAIN.

Having extended his sequel plans for 2009’s Avatar from two movies to four, James Cameron has spent the best part of a decade hammering away at the scripts and preparing for the hugely ambitious back-to-back-to-back-to-back undertaking of Avatar 2, Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. The first sequel has already been pushed back several times, and now Cameron has revealed that “2018 is not happening”. Meanwhile, Anghus Houvouras has been looking back at the first movie, and thanks it’s time we admit that Avatar was actually kind of terrible. Read his op-ed here.

RIDLEY SCOTT WANTS GLADIATOR SEQUEL

It looks like Ridley Scott has been bitten by the sequel bug. He recently revealed he had ideas for a further SIX Alien movies after Alien: Covenant, and now he’s been talking again about reuniting with Russell Crowe for the long-rumoured Gladiator sequel, and he knows how he can bring Maximus back from the dead. Read his comments here.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THE DARK TOWER MOVIE?

In just over four months time, Stephen King’s fantasy epic The Dark Tower hits the big screen; it’s been pushed back once, we’re yet to see a trailer (barring a leaked workprint in October), and now comes word that some last minute reshoots are underway. Something seems amiss, and it’s led Samuel Brace to ask, ‘What the hell is going on with The Dark Tower movie?’ Read his opinion piece here.
