Ben Wheatley would be open to directing a Marvel Zombies movie

Coming off the back of the likes of Kill List, Sightseers, High-Rise and his new film Free Fire, British director Ben Wheatley is carving himself a fine reputation with his body of work, and during an interview with Little White Lies, the filmmaker was asked if he’s open to moving on to “bigger”, more mainstream projects, such as a Marvel blockbuster.

“I dunno,” replied Wheatley. “I don’t really know how those things work. Marvel Zombies hasn’t been done which is what I’m interested in. Maybe that’s a bit too niche. Marvel’s interesting in that it’s kind of a hybrid of cinema and television. A very, very expensive TV show that you buy a pass for every three months.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Marvel Zombies, the series takes place in an alternate Marvel universe, where the world’s superheroes have been infected by a virus which turns them into flesh-eating monsters. It’s probably not high on Disney and Marvel Studios’ list of priorities to be honest, and much like Edgar Wright, Wheatley may not fit the Marvel director mold. Still, it’s certainly an interesting proposition…
