Director Jean-Marc Vallee rules out Big Little Lies season 2

April 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

HBO’s Big Little Lies aired its season finale this past Sunday, and while fans of the show are wondering whether we’ll get a second season, it seems that director Jean-Marc Vallee is firmly against the idea.

“This is the perfect ending,” said Vallee in an interview with Vulture. “There is no way; there’s no reason to make a season two. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it. I mean, I’d love to work with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman and all these women again but not to make a season two. I loved it. It’s a great show, and I’m so happy and excited to have been the chosen one to do this.”

However, star and producer Reese Witherspoon definitely appears keen, telling Vanity Fair that: “One of the main questions everyone keeps asking us is, is there going to be a Season 2. We’ve been talking with the writer, and you guys should Facebook Liane Moriarty and tell her how much you want to see Big Little Lies 2. That would be good. She’s thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas.”

Even if a second season fails to materialise, Witherspoon and Kidman could reunite with author Moriarty, with the duo having already optioned another of her books, Truly Madly Guilty.
