Dwayne Johnson lost out on Jack Reacher role to Tom Cruise

April 14, 2017 by Samuel Brace

It has been revealed that Dwayne Johnson auditioned for Jack Reacher but eventually lost out to Tom Cruise.

Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. former pro wrestler The Rock, has had quite the career, becoming more and more of a star with each passing year. And it turns out, about ten years ago, the actor had a chance to land his own franchise, with Johnson revealing on Twitter that he lost out on the part of Jack Reacher.

Responding to a fan’s question about why he didn’t play the role, Johnson tweeted the following:

Yup, luv the character. Bout 10yrs ago I went after the role, but Cruise got it. Was great motivation for me to always stay hungry. https://t.co/bwpZfEVIMm

This certainly would have given the film a different look, and he actually matches up more closely than Cruise with the character’s description in the book – with Reacher being a hulking 6 ft 5 – 200lb beast.

Nevertheless, it certainly hasn’t hurt Johnson’s career any, and as he alluded to in his tweet, his always positive attitude has only taken him upwards since.
