Back when the eighth installment of the mainstream phenomenon was revealed to be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the massive fan base began speculating as to whether the subtitle of the film was singular or plural. Thankfully, it’s a question we now have answered as director Rian Johnson has clarified the meaning.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Johnson explains: “It’s so funny, when people started asking that, when the title was announced because I had never even pondered that question. That seems like, to me, the most—the most uninteresting [question]. … In my mind, it’s singular. In my mind it is [singular], absolutely.”

Interestingly, Johnson’s comments run contrary to the international titles for the film, which refer to The Last Jedi as plural.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set for release on December 15th and sees returning cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke), Peter Mayhew and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), Mike Quinn (Nien Nunb), Simon Pegg (Unkar Plutt), and Warwick Davis joined by new additions Jimmy Vee (Pan) as R2-D2, Benicio Del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) and Kelly Marie Tran (Ladies Like Us).
