UPDATE: Has Zoe Saldana let slip the title for Avengers 4?

April 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday we brought you some comments from Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, who revealed that the title for Avengers 4 is yet to be revealed as it’s considered a spoiler for next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Well, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Zoe Saldana may have let slip that spoiler during last night’s European premiere of the Marvel sequel as she provided an update on the superhero team-up movies during an interview with

“I think the Guardians just shot their part when it comes to Infinity War,” said Saldana in a chat with Lizo Mizmba of the BBC. “And we all have to go back for Gauntlet later this year.”

Given that it has recently been revealed that Infinity War and Avengers 4 are being shot one after another, it would seem that Saldana is referring to the second film as Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet. If that is the title, it’s not really much of a surprise, given that The Infinity Gauntlet is the title of the 1991 comic book series which is serving as the inspiration for the two films.

However, it could also suggest that Infinity War will focus on Thanos acquiring the various Infinity Stones, perhaps culminating with him achieving god-like status and wiping out half of the life in the universe (including a few big name Avengers?) before actually doing battle with the heroes of the MCU in the 2019 film.

That being said, it’s also possible that ‘Gauntlet’ is just be a placeholder name for the cast and crew until they do decide upon an official title.

UPDATE: During a chat with Yahoo, James Gunn has said that Infinity Gauntlet isn’t the title after all: “It’s not the title. My guess is that Zoë just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoë today, but I would imagine that is just Zoë misspeaking and saying Infinity Gauntlet instead of Infinity War.”
