The creator of the US Netflix adaptation of House of Cards, Beau Willimon, is taking his latest series over to Hulu.
Having departed House of Cards after season 4, Willimon is now working on a new project entitled The First which is a drama about the first human mission to Mars.
Hulu have given the show a straight to series order that will explore the difficulties with interplanetary colonisation. Willimon created and wrote The First and will serve as the series’ executive producer, which is being co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, and IMG.
Willimon says, “It’s a story about the human spirit, about our indomitable need to reach for unknown horizons. About people working toward the greatest pioneering achievement in human history. And about the cost of that vision, the danger and sacrifice — emotional, psychological, and physical — that’s required to achieve it. How ordinary, imperfect people band together and overcome a myriad of obstacles to grasp the extraordinary.”
It certainly sounds like an interesting project but seeing just how Willimon will fare on one of Netflix’s streaming rivals will perhaps be more interesting still.
