UPDATE: Diane Lane says Justice League won’t be better than The Avengers

May 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Originally published May 12, 2017. Updated April 16, 2018.

2017 is going to be a massive year for DC Films and fans of the DC Extended Universe. Not only do we have Wonder Woman to look forward to, but in November the biggest heroes of the DC universe will join forces with the release of the hotly-anticipated Justice League movie.

As you’d expect, there’s going to be a lot of comparisons between Justice League and Marvel’s own team-up movie The Avengers, particularly amongst those fans who like to partake in the ‘Marvel vs. DC’ war. However, those on the DC side of the fence hoping that Justice League tops its Marvel rival will likely be disappointed – or perhaps even enraged – by the latest comments from Diane Lane, a.k.a. Martha Kent.

Appearing on the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen After Show, the Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star was asked if she could reveal any Justice League spoilers, and whether it will be better than The Avengers. Her answer?

“No and no. Short but honest. I hate to disappoint.”

Watch the video here…

There’s a few ways of looking at Lane’s response here; she either wasn’t listening to the question properly, she’s trying to play down any ridiculously high expectations, or she simply hasn’t been too impressed by what she’s seen of the movie so far. And of course, even if it is the latter, it would seem unlikely that the actress has seen anything remotely close to a final cut of the movie, and may not have even read the entire script.

UPDATE: Lane’s representatives have issued a statement to ComicBook clarifying her comments:

“Diane meant ‘sorry to disappoint’ in reference to revealing anything concerning Justice League that is not already out in the public, and, was declining to comment on a film (Avengers) that she has not seen. She is thrilled to continue her role as Martha Kent, and appreciates your excitement for Justice League. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to clarify this.”

What do you make of Lane’s remark? Are you worried that Justice League won’t be as good as The Avengers? Does it even matter? Let us know in the comments below…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
