Rosario Dawson and Henry Zaga in talks for X-Men: The New Mutants, film to be “a full-fledged horror”

May 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Following on from the confirmation that Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams are set to play Magik and Wolfsbane, THR is reporting that The Defenders star Rosario Dawson is in talks to join the cast of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: The New Mutants.

The site reports that Dawson will portray Dr. Cecilia Reyes, “a medical doctor who has the ability to generate a protective bio-field around herself [and] assumes a mentor role for the group of fledgling heroes.”

It is also said that Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) will soon be announced as playing the character of Bobby da Costa, a.k.a. Sunspot, who previously appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he was portrayed by Adan Canto.

The article also goes on to debunk the previous rumours that X-Men: Apocalypse stars James McAvoy and Alexandra Shipp will reprise the roles of Professor X and Storm, stating that neither character are in the script.

In other New Mutants news, director Josh Boone has been chatting to EW about the spinoff and its tone, describing it as “a full-fledged horror movie”:

“We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” says Boone. “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.”

EW also unveiled a logline for the film, which reads:

“Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.”

X-Men: The New Mutants is set for release on April 13th 2018.
