Netflix cancels Sense8 after two seasons

June 1, 2017 by Ricky Church

Just a day after Netflix announced they wanted their original shows to “take more risks” while having a “higher cancel rate”, the streaming service have announced that they have pulled the plug on Sense8 after two seasons.

The series came from Lana and Lily Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski. Sense8 centered around eight characters from different parts of the world, who experience a violent vision and discover afterwards they’re now mentally connected by the experience. They’re able to see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, with access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must the eight adapt to this new ability and to each other, they must figure out why their lives are now in jeopardy.

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content. “It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

It was only last week Netflix cancelled The Get Down after one season and late last year they cancelled Marco Polo, taking three of the streaming services most watched shows away. We’ll have to see if any other Netflix Originals go down the same route.
