American Horror Story has just gained a new cast member. Ryan Murphy tweeted out that Lena Dunham, star and creator of HBO’s Girls, has been cast in the show’s seventh season. It is unknown in what capacity the role is, but Deadline is reporting it will be for just one episode.
Dunham joins Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Billy Eichner, Cheyenne Jackson, Alison Pill, Colton Haynes and Adina Porter. Murphy has also revealed Twisty the clown from season four of American Horror Story could make a return to the new season.

Additionally, fans looking for more information on the new American Horror Story can witness and take part in a special stunt on Thursday night at San Diego Comic-Con. This first step, which will open the door to all future reveals ahead of this fall’s premiere of AHS’s seventh installment, will take place at 9:15 PM PT at the water’s edge adjacent to the FXHibition space at the Hilton Bayfront Park. Murphy has been teasing his fans that they’ll learn more here, including the season’s title and premise.
As is typical of Murphy, the plot of the season is shrouded in mystery. Murphy has revealed he’s taking inspiration from the 2016 Presidential election in the U.S., and the season will be set in the aftermath of an election with the premiere taking place on Election Night.
American Horror Story has already been renewed for an 8th and 9th season. Murphy, meanwhile, is also working on the next instalments of American Crime Story, which recently flipped its seasons. The Assassination of Gianni Versace is now the second season while Katrina will be its third.
