SDCC: Details on Watchmen / DC crossover Doomsday Clock revealed, first artwork unveiled

July 21, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was announced that the DC Universe is set to collide with the Watchmen Universe with the upcoming twelve part miniseries Doomsday Clock from writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank, and during a panel at yesterday’s San Diego Comic-Con International DC dropped some major details about the hotly-anticipated event.

The series will run for 12 issues, beginning in November (but skipping March and August 2018), and was described as “a story for our time that brings the greatest heroes and villains from the DC Universe together with the mysterious forces from the Watchmen Universe.”

Doomsday Clock will begin one year ahead of the current DC timeline, so that the other titles can catch up to events by the release of the final issue in December 2018.

It’s previously been revealed that much of the focus will be on Superman and Doctor Manhattan, with Johns stating yesterday that “Superman IS the story”. However, Johns also went on to tease a meeting between Lex Luthor and Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, saying: “I love seeing the smartest man from one world talk to the smartest man from another. And the smartest man from DC’s world is Lex Luthor… and that’s all I’ll say.”

We also got a first look at some of Gary Frank’s panels from the series, which you can check out here…

Doomsday Clock #1 will go on sale on November 22nd.
