Description of the Aquaman footage shown at Comic-Con

July 22, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

Warner Bros. held its big DC Extended Universe panel at Comic-Con today, which brought us a brand new trailer for Justice League [see here], a passionate denial from Ben Affleck that his time as Batman is coming to an end [see here], and confirmation that the next batch of DCEU movies will include Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Justice League Dark, Flashpoint, Wonder Woman 2, Green Lantern Corps and Batgirl [see here].

However, before then, Jason Momoa took to the stage, complete with trident, to unveil the very first footage from Aquaman; it hasn’t made its way online, but EW has a description of the scene:

The clip shared begins with two fishermen on open water, as a foreign-language version of “Beyond the Sea” plays on their radio. Suddenly, something big grabs their fishing pole and starts to pull – first lightly, and then the whole boat gets pulled through the water. Looking down, they see gigantic undersea creatures, including huge manta rays and what appears to be a five-finned shark. The camera moves underwater, and we see that it’s a whole army, including some tough-looking dudes riding sharks. The footage ends with a shot of Momoa holding up his trident.

“That’s Ocean Master’s army,” explained Momoa. “Black Manta ain’t got nothing like that. That’s my brother. I’m gonna be fighting my brother.”

Aquaman is being directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, and Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry. It is set for release on December 21st 2018.
