Rumour: Mar-Vell to appear in Captain Marvel movie

August 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

During the San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that 2019’s Captain Marvel movie will take place in the early 1990s, and is set to see Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers doing battle with the Skrulls.

Aside from an appearance by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury (complete with both eyes), details on the movie are in short supply at present. However, MCU Exchange has dropped some rumoured details on the film, suggesting that the Kree will play a major role in the story, and that Mar-Vell – the original Captain Marvel – will also be included.

Although it has previously been suggested by co-writer Nicole Perlman that the movie will alter Carol’s origin story, MCU Exchange’s report goes on to state that we will “see a version of the Psyche-Magnitron accident from the comics and that accident will be responsible for altering her DNA and giving her powers”, and that her half-Kree/half-human DNA will be used to explain why the character won’t age between her 90s-set solo movie and her expected appearance in Avengers 4.

In one other tidbit, apparently early drafts of the script make reference to Carol’s time as Ms. Marvel, and a version of the Ms. Marvel costume will also feature in the movie.

Now, this should all be treated as a rumour for the time being, although MCU Exchange does have a decent track record, and was on the money with its recent report about the Black Order being rebranded as the Children of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

What do you make of these rumours? Let us know in the comments below…

Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8th 2019, and sees Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) directing Brie Larson as Carol Danvers and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
