George Clooney says Suburbicon isn’t a comedy, new image of Matt Damon released

August 12, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

A new image has debuted from George Clooney’s Suburbicon featuring leading man Matt Damon, while Clooney has also been chatting with EW about his latest directorial effort, during which he cleared up some misconceptions regarding the film’s tone.

“They keep calling it a ‘comedy’ and you’d be hard-pressed to find a lot of funny in it,” said Clooney. “It’s a pretty angry and dark film, which is sort of what we wanted to make at the time. Every time I see someone go, ‘Yeah, it’s a black-comedy!’ you go, ‘There’s a couple of laughs, but it wasn’t designed to be ha-ha funny.’ It’s very very dark. It starts out feeling like a Disney film and, by the end, it feels like it takes a pretty dramatic, serious turn to, like, an acid trip of some form.”

Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns…the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices. This is Suburbicon.

Suburbicon is set for release on October 27th.
