The new season of The X-Files will be mainly standalone episodes

August 12, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was announced that The X-Files creator Chris Carter will once again be reuniting with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for an eleventh season of the paranormal series, set to premiere in 2018.

During the Television Critics Association press tour this past week, Fox entertainment president David Madden revealed a little nugget of information about the new season, stating that the new season will consist of eight stand-alone episodes, sandwiched between mythology episodes in the season premiere and season finale.

Meanwhile, Fox TV Group chairman Dana Walden was also asked about the controversy over the predominantly male writing team – something that Gillian Anderson herself expressed her displeasure over – with Walden stating that:

“I don’t want to make any excuses for anyone. Chris has assigned two women to two of the 10 episodes, and we do have two female directors. I think Chris is making moves in the right direction.”

Season eleven of The X-Files is slated to premiere in midseason 2018.
