Christian Bale may have just entered the Oscar race with Hostiles, watch the trailer here

September 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Christian Bale’s latest film Hostiles may have just booked him a spot among this year’s Best Actor Oscar contenders.

Hostiles, a film directed by Scott Cooper (Black Mass), has recently been screened at the Telluride Film Festival where Bale was also being honoured for his career.

Hostiles is a bleak western about a 19th-century captain in the U.S. Armie who is forced to escort a Cheyenne man back to his native land. The film is being received highly among those that have seen it with particular praise being directed at Christian Bale’s performance.

The Hollywood Reporter reports “Bale, a true chameleon who seemingly can do anything — including, in this film, speaking chunks of Cheyenne — makes this film a must-see” and also stating “the British actor delivers a gut punch of a performance.”

The only issue for Bale and Hostiles is that the film has yet to find a distributor. A lot of films this time of year arrive at the festival circuit looking to be acquired for an awards season push and Hostiles is no different.

It is reported by Deadline that both Fox Searchlight and Annapurna have shown interest in picking up the film.

“If it’s released before the end of the year,” says The Hollywood Reporter, “then its leading man Christian Bale is almost sure of a place in this year’s best actor race.”
