Unrecognisable Christian Bale has been “eating a lot of pies” for his next role in Backseat

September 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

In order to accurately play his latest movie role, Christian Bale has packed on the pounds, becoming almost unrecognisable.

Bale is no stranger to drastic body transformations over the years, dropping an astonishing 65 pounds for The Machinist in 2004 and beefing up a year later for Batman Begins, to name just two examples.

Now he is enlarging himself once again to play former vice president Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s upcoming biopic Backseat. And he has become quite the site, causing a few double takes in the process.

Bale recently sat down with Variety at the Toronto Film Festival and talked about his latest transformation, with Bale saying that in order to gain the sufficient weight: “I’ve just been eating a lot of pies.”

As you can see from the above clip, Bale is a far cry from the image he cut during Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, and seems even more unrecognisable than he was during American Hustle.

The eyebrows probably don’t help.

Bale’s next film, Hostiles, is expected to make a showing this awards season, if it can find distribution in time that is.
