Men in Black spinoff sets screenwriters and release date

October 1, 2017 by Gary Collinson

After toying with the idea of a Jump Street crossover, it seems that Sony has decided to dust off its Men in Black franchise by officially moving forward on a spinoff to the blockbuster franchise.

Deadline is reporting that the studio has set a May 17th 2019 release date for the as-yet-untitled film, which has been scripted by Matt Holloway and Art Marcus (Iron Man, Transformers: The Last Knight).

The new film is not expected to feature appearances by Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, but “acknowledges and builds on the world they inhabited” albeit with new characters and a more global scale than the first three movies.

Sony is said to be actively meeting with directors and expects to secure one soon so that the project can be fast-tracked through production. Meanwhile, the Jump Street crossover reportedly remains in development, but is unlikely to move forward before the release of the spinoff.

Are you excited about a Men in Black spinoff? Would you have preferred another sequel, or the 21 Jump Street crossover? Let us know in the comments below…
