Back when he first decided to “freshen up” the Transformers series with Transformers: Age of Extinction, director Michael Bay suggested that he could pass on the reins to a new director for the fifth and sixth instalments of the lucrative Hasbro franchise.
Despite near-universal negative reviews, Age of Extinction has proved popular with audiences, becoming the second Transformers movie to break a billion at the box office. However, it seems that Bay could be sticking to his original plan, telling USA Today that he’s ready to shift his focus elsewhere:
“There’s kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make,” states Bay, who has made just one non-Transformers film, Pain & Gain, since first bringing the Robots in Disguise to the big screen in 2007. “I have a lot of stories to tell. And it’s about flexing new muscles.”
Would you be happy if Bay passed the series on to a new director, and who would you like to see taking over for Transformers 5, which is set for release some time in 2016.
