World of Warplanes version 2.0 brings a new game mode, new class of plane and more

October 11, 2017 by Andrew Newton

Players now have a reason to re-start their engines and once again take to the skies as historical MMO developers Wargaming announce the biggest update for World of Warplanes since 2013.  World of Warplanes version 2.0 adds a new game mode called Conquest, introduces bombers, respawns and more.  There are also more updates planned for the future bringing more content, rebalancing and improvements.

Until now all battles were deathmatch style battles to gain air superiority but with the new Conquest game mode players will attack and defend key sectors on the map with those using better teamwork between the different classes standing a better chance of victory.  This mode also allows room for those highly skilled pilots among you to display your own skills in battle.

The introduction of the Bomber class will be the favoured feature of this update among many players as it has been long requested.  The Bomber class will have high survivability, altitude performance, powerful defensive armament and a large payload of bombs which can be dropped on enemy targets.  To help with targeting there will be a special camera mode called Bomb Sight that allows players to see directly below them.  The first 3 bombers will be available to play for free until the 30th October.

Version 2.0 has also reviewed the parameters of all aircraft classes so that all classes have their own strengths and weaknesses and can fulfill their specific missions.  These parameters are:

  • Fighters destroy soft airborne targets and ground target defence
  • Multirole Fighters are capable of assaulting ground targets and shooting down airborne targets
  • Heavy Fighters are excellent at making quick strikes on ground targets and intercepting enemy heavy aircraft
  • Attack Aircraft and Bombers quickly destroy ground targets in sectors by firing with large-calibre cannons and outboard weapons, or bombing from high-altitudes

Among the many changes with this update none may be as beneficial in combat as the ability to Respawn.  With this new feature players will no longer need to disengage from a dogfight and losing a plane doesn’t mean the end of the battle, instead, players will be able to respawn several times although the delay between each respawn increases the more times you are destroyed.

World of Warplanes version 2.0 includes so much new content and more improvements than you can shake a stick at so check out the patch notes here.
