Taika Waititi on his What We Do in the Shadows spin-off plans

October 26, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

He may have only just finished reinvigorating the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the kaleidoscopic brilliance of Thor: Raganrok, but Taika Waititi has been quick to reassure fans that one of his previous pieces of cinematic genius, What We Do in the Shadows, will still get its own proposed spin-off, and more.

Speaking to Fandango, Waititi updated fans of his 2102 mockumentary vampire film, who have waited for news on the werewolf centric sequel, We’re Wolves, since it was mooted in the wake of Shadows success. He said that plans were “still in motion for that film” but also added that “We’re trying to develop a U.S. version of What We Do in the Shadows, you know, set here in the States, but a T.V. show.”

Waititi also confirmed that another spin-off featuring the two cops from What We Do in the Shadows is still happening. “We’re also trying to start shooting in New Zealand. A spin-off following the two cops from the movie, as a sort of mockumentary X-Files [that takes place in] a certain small New Zealand town where they investigate paranormal activity”.

If you’re yet to see the imminently re-watchable deadpan delight, then you owe it to yourself to spend time in Waititi’s unique New Zealand house-share.
