Taika Waititi would like to direct a Black Widow comedy

October 28, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having scored rave reviews with his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi has already revealed that he’s keen on returning to the MCU to helm another Thor movie. However, it seems the God of Thunder isn’t the only character he’s interested in, as the filmmaker has told iO9 that he’d be keen on bringing his unique brand of humour to a Black Widow solo film.

“In all honesty, I reckon I could probably bring something pretty unique to any of the franchises, so I’d love to see Black Widow,” said Waititi. “Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be, because we know her story and it’s very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?”

Both Marvel and Scarlett Johansson have teased the possibility of a Black Widow solo movie for several years now, and with Wonder Woman proving that female superhero movies can succeed at the box office, perhaps we’ll finally get to see this realised in Phase Four.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Zachary Levi as Fandral.
